Day 5: School in Session

Outdoor Classroom

DSCN7878

While the civils went back to the site to continue the perc tests, the project leader and I visited the school to see and study the habits of a school in session.  We came to see how the classrooms and outdoor spaces were inhabited, and even more importantly how the kids were picked up by their parents at the end of the day.  Something as simple as a parent’s habit to find the child at a classroom, a habit to  wait in a  vehicle for a child to come to them, where the kids generally like to wait, or if the kids walk home – all these details should influence our design decisions.  That afternoon it was back to the drawing board for me.  A design was coming together, although still needed much refinement and needed to be drafted so that anyone besides myself could understand it!

  1. This is so interesting, Lise! I honestly had no idea so much was involved in drawing up a plan for a building. Here I thought you called an architect, they drew up a blueprint in their office and sent it over…just goes to show what I know! What a fascinating project…praise the Lord for your willingness to serve our brothers and sisters in Christ in such a practical way!

    • Thanks Laura! That’s the one great thing about keeping a blog. It allows people a chance to see what they normally don’t. It’s been really great following your blog as well. Oh how much can change in only a few years! I’m glad you have found outlets to continue writing!
