In March Vikkie invited me to join her, Rachel, and a few other friends to one of the Maple Syrup Festival locations that was at Bruce’s Mill Conservation Area. I took a GO bus to Unionville where the group picked me up and we headed over together. I met Hong-Li who works with Vikkie.
The main activity was to follow a path through the woods where there were stops along the way with exhibits that showed the steps of the maple syrup collecting and making process, and differences between traditional and modern methods. The signs portrayed smiling bud cartoons and at first I didn’t know what they were! I was glad that I came prepared with a second pair of shoes, because it was very muddy! After walking the trail we enjoyed pancakes at the pancake house that was jam-packed with parents and kids who must have been on a big group outing. We had a nice time but were a bit disappointed that the festival didn’t have our favourite activity which is pouring fresh hot sap on snow to make maple toffee. Afterwards we went to Rachel’s house and ate take-out indian food and played an online game where you play with everyone using your phone. I think our favourite game was T-shirt design where it threw our quick designs and funny slogans together and we got to vote for our favourite combinations! The winner was a T-shirt with I heart Rachel on it with the slogan “I’m your next mistake.” LOL! Credit goes to Vikkie for these photos from our excursion!
